Fuel poverty is a blight on modern day society, which we all have a
responsibility as individuals, businesses and as a society to seek to
eradicate. We recognise that there are three main causes to fuel poverty and
we’re seeking to make our contribution to impacting on each of these
areas.
Cause:
Fuel Prices
Impact:
Fuel prices are the largest contributor to fuel poverty.
What we do:
Providing best value solutions that recognise our costs are included in consumer tariffs.
Sharing best practise information on setting fair for all tariffs.
Utilising technology to allow minimum comfort level tariffs.
Cause:
Household Income
Impact:
If you don’t earn enough, no matter the cost you cannot afford to heat your home.
What we do:
As a business we’re a Living Wage employer and ensure we pay our team above the Living Wage Foundation recommended wage rates.
We also ensure those who work indirectly for us are paid the Living Wage.
Cause:
Energy Efficiency
Impact:
Don’t let valuable energy go to waste, unnecessarily increasing energy costs.
What we do:
Enabling and encouraging the use of heat networks that can positively impact energy efficiency.
Allowing utility suppliers to access data that identifies those at risk of fuel poverty for direct engagement.
We also seek to to engage with other organisations, charities and
local groups to directly contribute to changing attitudes and
understanding around fuel poverty.
Most recently we have also positively engaged with the charity National Energy Action as part of the Warm Safe Homes campaign,
as well as the London Borough of Hackney attending their sustainability
day where we engaged directly with residents helping understand and
reduce their energy consumption.
